Required Programs for the New Teaching Assistant

Congratulations on your appointment as a teaching assistant at the University of Oklahoma. As part of orientation to the University, the Program for Instructional Innovation would like to invite you to the campus wide TA Training Program.

This training is for all teaching assistants new to the University of Oklahoma whose duties will include any contact with students. This workshop will help ease transition into the University teaching community as well as enhance teaching effectiveness. It will provide you with knowledge and skills that will help you meet the challenges and cultural norms at the University of Oklahoma's educational system.

This year's training program will consist of two workshops:
  • The International Teaching Assistants (ITA) Training Program is a four-day workshop that targets the special needs of new international teaching assistants.
  • The All-Teaching Assistants (ATA) Program is a two-day workshop composed of a general orientation to University policies and procedures and "specific interest" sessions.
Both programs are designed to complement the training and orientation offered by individual departments. Upon completion of the program, a letter certifying r participation will be sent to your department and to the Graduate College. Please plan to join us for one or both training workshops.

In addition, you may be required to attend a departmental TA training program, if your department offers it. Consult your department.

Teaching Assistant Virtual Workshop

The Improving Teaching in the Academy (ITA) web site has been created to provide Teaching Assistants (TA's) at the college level with a way of further developing their teaching expertise.  Often times it has been found that universities use TA's while providing limited education and training for that position.  Therefore, the ITA web site has been created in an attempt to rectify this issue by providing quality training that is built on extensively researched empirical knowledge about the teaching profession as it pertains to Teaching Assistants.
